This week, Bryan & I cover the sixth day (of six) of production week on our latest project, IMPULSE. We've decided to format our daily accounts as a questionnaire. Behind the scenes pictures are also included below.
PRODUCTION DATE: November 12, 2009
# OF CAMERA SETUPS: 9 + some coverage with the Dodge Challenger, etc.
BEST PART OF THE DAY
SCOTT: Knowing that we wrap today and that the stuff we've shot is looking great. Today was a vastly easy day compared to the others in terms of set-ups. Not a bad way to end the shoot. Also: after party at the Hotel Pattee bowling alley.
BRYAN: Hitting our stride, and finally feeling comfortable with our cast and crew. Wish we had the luxury of a five day warm up period before getting to the more difficult scenes. We worked with a lot of new folks in front of and behind the camera on this one, so there was a bit of learning curve to overcome. I suppose it helps that everyone exceeded our expectations though... thanks everybody.
WORST PART OF THE DAY
SCOTT: Also the fact that we're wrapping. It's been such a fun and challenging movie to shoot, and it's always hard to say goodbye to your production family. We wrapped most of the cast and crew early in the day, so it was a little anticlimactic when it came down to the final shot and only a handful of people were still around.
BRYAN: It's over. Probably the most fun Scott and I have ever had directing. We will be depressed again until the next one.
BIGGEST CHALLENGE OF THE DAY
SCOTT: Getting our coverage with the Dodge Challenger. We had to pick up a bunch of shots where the car had to drive fast. And we no longer had the ability to close down the city streets, so it was a challenge to find empty roads that we could cinematically (and safely) use.
BRYAN: Keeping the pace up. Everyone on set knew it was an "easy" day and it reflected in the casual work flow. The stuff we were getting was great, but the leisurely pace wouldn't be tolerated under normal circumstances.
MIRACLE OF THE DAY
SCOTT: Our biggest miracle: that IMPULSE has been shot. Time for the editing room.
BRYAN: We pulled it off. There were some many times... sooo many times, we thought IMPULSE would be impossible. So proud of everyone who made it happen, in spite of our collective fears, anxieties, and short comings.
